Not Los Angeles
Los Angeles is the city where it is often more common for the celebrities to be hounded by madly sycophantic fans who follow them wherever they go. This forces the celebrities to take cover inside fort like mansions with smoked glass and iron gates. This kind of crazy celebrity worshipping is not seen as often in New York. The New York celebrities who now throng the streets and places in the city impress the people there. But that impression is rarely manifested in the way seen in Los Angeles.
Restrained Expression
New York celebrities are increasingly buying properties in the city and swarming among the city people. Will the people of New York start behaving like their brethren in Los Angeles? Not likely. Though, one never knows what the future holds. But in the current climate they do not crowd around the houses of New York celebrities. This means the celebrities also do not have the amusement of looking down at fans from behind the smoked glass. Does this suggest that New Yorkers are not disappointed if they do not spot any celebrity on the street or are totally oblivious of the whereabouts of New York celebrities? Are they not interested to see a Ryan Adams or Jay-Z in a shop or in a park? Not really. As far as interests in celebrities go, there is not much difference between Los Angeles and New York. The difference lies in the restrained manner in which the New York celebrities are noticed by the city people. The pretension of not caring is what makes the New Yorkers stand out vis-à-vis their attitude towards the celebrities that also afford the big names some privacy they look for.
Fellow Citizens
New York celebrities can live among the city dwellers like compatriots. Neighbors do not stalk fellow neighbors and New York is unique for this distinctive behavior of her citizens. In this sense, New York celebrities are on a level playing field with the ordinary citizens. So sometimes if they wish they can pose for an occasional photo without worrying about being bothered by others for one.
